To assist surgeons and nursing staff during ophthalmic surgeries by ensuring smooth functioning of the Operation Theatre (OT), preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, and providing technical support for surgical procedures.
Pre-Operative Duties
Prepare OT for surgeries – cleaning, sterilization, arranging instruments and equipment.
Check functionality of OT equipment (microscopes, phaco machine, cautery, suction, etc.).
Maintain stock of sterile instruments, consumables, and disposables.
Assist in patient preparation (gowning, draping, positioning, etc.).
Intra-Operative Duties
Assist the surgeon during surgery by handling instruments and equipment.
Ensure strict adherence to aseptic techniques and sterile field maintenance.
Operate and monitor specialized ophthalmic equipment during surgery.
Support anesthetist/nursing staff as required.
Post-Operative Duties
Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste as per hospital protocol.
Clean and sterilize instruments after each surgery.
Prepare OT for the next procedure.
Maintain accurate OT records and logs.
Equipment & Inventory Management
Regularly check, calibrate, and maintain OT equipment.
Report breakdowns immediately to the Biomedical/Engineering department.
Maintain adequate stock of medicines, consumables, and surgical kits.
General Responsibilities
Follow infection control protocols.
Ensure patient safety and comfort.
Participate in training, audits, and quality improvement activities.
Coordinate with surgeons, nursing staff, and admin for smooth workflow.
