Position Summary:
The Plumber is responsible for installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems within the hospital. This includes water supply, drainage, sanitary systems, and medical gas pipeline support to ensure uninterrupted services, hygiene, and patient safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Plumbing Operations and Maintenance
Maintain hospital plumbing systems including water supply lines, drainage, and sewage systems.
Ensure uninterrupted water supply to wards, ICU, OT, OPD, labs, and public areas.
Monitor and maintain overhead tanks, sumps, pumps, and pipelines.
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance as per schedule.
2. Installation and Repair Works
Install and repair pipes, valves, taps, fittings, and sanitary fixtures.
Attend plumbing breakdowns such as leakages, blockages, and pipe bursts promptly.
Replace defective plumbing components and fixtures.
Assist in installation of new plumbing systems during renovations or expansions.
3. Sanitation and Hygiene Support
Ensure proper functioning of toilets, washbasins, urinals, and drainage systems.
Prevent water stagnation and leakage to maintain hygiene and infection control standards.
Support housekeeping and infection control teams in maintaining sanitary conditions.
4. Medical Gas and Utility Support (if applicable)
Assist in maintenance of medical gas pipelines (oxygen, vacuum, compressed air) under supervision.
Check pipeline leakages and report abnormalities immediately.
Support emergency repairs in critical areas as required.
5. Safety and Compliance
Follow safety procedures while working in confined spaces or at heights.
Use appropriate PPE and tools for plumbing works.
Ensure plumbing systems comply with hospital safety and NABH standards.
Report any safety hazards to the Engineering In-Charge.
6. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain daily maintenance and breakdown records.
Record preventive maintenance activities and repairs carried out.
Report major issues and material requirements to the supervisor.
Assist during audits with plumbing-related documentation.
7. Coordination and Emergency Support
Coordinate with engineering, housekeeping, and nursing teams for plumbing needs.
Attend emergency plumbing issues promptly, including night shifts if required.
Support disaster management and emergency preparedness activities.
