Position Summary:
The CSSD Technician is responsible for the sterilization, cleaning, and maintenance of surgical instruments, medical devices, and equipment used in the hospital. The role ensures that all sterile supplies meet infection control and NABH standards, supporting safe patient care and surgical procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Sterilization and Instrument Processing
Decontaminate, clean, and disinfect surgical instruments, trays, and medical devices.
Operate autoclaves, sterilizers, and other sterilization equipment according to standard protocols.
Inspect instruments for damage, wear, or defects before and after sterilization.
Ensure correct packaging, labeling, and storage of sterile supplies.
2. Equipment Handling and Maintenance
Operate and maintain sterilization equipment including autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and washers.
Perform routine checks and basic troubleshooting of CSSD equipment.
Report malfunctions or maintenance needs to the CSSD In-Charge or biomedical department.
Maintain records of equipment maintenance and sterilization cycles.
3. Inventory Management
Maintain adequate stock of sterile and non-sterile supplies for OT, ICU, and other clinical areas.
Monitor expiry dates, batch numbers, and integrity of sterilized items.
Assist in requisitioning and restocking CSSD consumables and supplies.
4. Infection Control and Compliance
Follow hospital infection control guidelines and NABH standards strictly.
Use appropriate PPE (gloves, masks, gowns) during handling of contaminated instruments.
Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste generated in the CSSD.
Participate in audits, quality checks, and continuous quality improvement activities.
5. Documentation and Reporting
Maintain sterilization logs, autoclave cycle records, and instrument tracking forms.
Document all repairs, maintenance, and routine checks performed on instruments and equipment.
Report any deviations, instrument shortages, or safety incidents to the CSSD In-Charge.
6. Teamwork and Coordination
Coordinate with OT staff, nurses, and biomedical engineers for timely supply of sterile instruments.
Assist in training junior CSSD staff or temporary helpers.
Support smooth workflow between CSSD and clinical departments.
