Technician

An Access Control System Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic security systems that regulate entry to buildings and restricted areas. They work with a variety of security technologies, including card access systems, biometric readers, CCTV cameras, and electromagnetic locks. 

• System installation: Installing new access control systems according to design. This includes hardware like card readers, biometric scanners, and EM locks, Controller termination.

• Maintenance and repair: Performing regular maintenance on access control systems, including cleaning components, checking power supplies and connections, updating software and firmware, and replacing faulty equipment.

• Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software malfunctions in access control systems, like card reader issues, software glitches, and power supply problems.

• System testing: Ensuring that newly installed or repaired systems are working correctly and meet all security standards and regulations.

• Technical expertise: Knowledge of access control systems, CCTV systems, and networking fundamentals.

• Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and fix complex hardware and software issues within access control systems.

• Problem-solving: Aptitude for analysing situations and developing effective solutions to security system problems.

• Communication: Clear and concise communication skills for interacting with clients, team members, and other stakeholders.

• Physical ability: The capability to lift equipment, work at heights, and perform tasks involving bending and kneeling. 

Education and experience.

• Typically, a high school diploma or equivalent is required, with technical certifications in electronics or security systems often preferred.

• Relevant experience, particularly 2 to 3 years in the installation and maintenance of access control and security systems, is highly desirable.
