Roles & Responsibilities of ITI Electrician / Electrical

1. Reading & Interpreting Electrical Drawings

   • Read wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical drawings to understand circuit layouts and installation specifications.

   • Use engineering drawings to plan placement of devices (motors, switchgear, transformers, etc.).

2. Electrical Installation

   • Install wiring systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings (conduits, switches, sockets, distribution boards).

   • Mount and wire lighting fixtures, panels, junction boxes, switchgear, etc.

   • Install motors, transformers, generators, and electrical machines as per specifications.

3. Assembly / Electrical Fitting

   • As “Electrical Fitter”: assemble components of electrical machines (motors, switchgear, transformers, fans).

   • Follow wiring diagrams, solder terminals or connections, fit resistors, insulators, bus-bars. Environment Portal

   • Check continuity, resistance, leakage, and earth connections at each stage using tools like meggers, ammeters, voltmeters.

4. Maintenance & Repair

   • Locate and repair faults in wiring, components, and circuitry (blown fuses, short circuits, earthing problems).

   • Periodically dismantle, inspect, and overhaul electrical units (motors, generators, transformers).

   • Replace defective parts (switches, coils, conductors) as needed.

5. Testing & Quality Checks

   • Perform tests on installations using instruments (like meggers) to check insulation, continuity, and circuit behavior.

   • Use gauges and meters to ensure correct assembly and functioning of electrical-mechanical parts.

   • Ensure installations conform to performance criteria and safety standards.

6. Safety & Compliance

   • Follow safety protocols (use of PPE, safe handling of electrical tools, fire safety). Make sure electrical installations comply with electrical codes, grounding/earthing norms.

   • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

7. Planning & Organization

   • Identify required materials, tools, and components before starting work.

   • Plan work sequence — installation, testing, repair — based on job requirements.

8. Technical Documentation

   • Maintain records of work done (faults found, repairs made, testing results).

   • Report on maintenance schedules, parts used, and safety checks.

9. Operating Electrical Machines

   • Start, run, and maintain AC/DC motors.

   • Work with alternators, transformer sets, and other rotating machines. Institution

   • Perform winding work (armature, field winding) when needed, based on training.

10. Earthing & Grounding

    • Install earthing systems (plate/pipe earthing).

    • Measure earth resistance using testers.

11. Lighting & Electrical Fixtures

    • Install lighting systems (fluorescent, mercury vapor, sodium lamps) as per design. Ardent

    • Maintain and repair common electrical appliances (fans, heaters, etc.).

12. Soft Skills & Teamwork

    • Communicate with supervisors and team members about tasks, safety, and troubleshooting.

    • Work in a team, collaborate with other trades.

    • Learn and adapt to new technologies / tools (for example, renewable energy systems).

13. Continuous Learning / Specialization

    • Improve skills in specialized areas: e.g., motor winding, control panel wiring, solar systems.

    • Option to become an instructor / trainer in ITI (if doing CITS – Craft Instructor Training Scheme).

• It is a Full Time Electrician job for candidates with 6 months - 2 years of experience.
