Role Overview
The Brush Painter will be responsible for preparing surfaces (metal, steel, structural components, pipes, etc.), applying protective coatings/paints using brush or other manual methods, ensuring quality, safety and adherence to specifications. The painter may work in workshops, fabrication yards, marine / offshore environments or on-site, as per project needs.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare surfaces before painting: remove rust, dirt, grease; clean, sand, scrape, wire-brush or otherwise prepare surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
Apply primer, protective paint, varnish or coatings to metal, structural steel, pipes, equipment, or designated surfaces using brush, rollers or manual coating methods.
Mix paints/coatings correctly if required: match specifications, mix pigments, coatings, solvents to get correct shade/finish/durability.
Follow project drawings or specifications (if provided) to ensure correct paint type, coating thickness and application method.
Maintain and clean painting tools, brushes, rollers, and equipment after work is done.
Inspect finished work for quality: ensure uniform coating, no drips, no missed spots, smooth finish, properly adhered coatings.
Adhere to safety norms and use appropriate safety gear/ PPE — especially when working on industrial structures or offshore/on-site.
Qualifications & Skills
Basic education: Minimum 10th or 12th pass (or equivalent) — depending on project/contract requirement.
Proven experience as a brush / industrial / protective-coating painter (metal/steel/fabrication context preferred).
Good knowledge of different paint types, protective coatings, primers, their suitability and correct application procedures.
Skilled in surface preparation techniques (sanding, scraping, rust removal, cleaning, priming).
Ability to mix paints/coatings correctly to match required specifications.
Physically fit and able to work in demanding conditions — standing for long periods, working on scaffolding or shipyard / offshore / fabrication yard if needed.
Attention to detail, good workmanship, ability to deliver high-quality finishes.
Basic understanding of safety practices, use of protective gear, and adherence to site safety rules.
Ability to follow instructions, read specifications/drawings (if required), and coordinate with site supervisors / fabrication teams.
Working Conditions
Work may be at workshop/fabrication yard, industrial site, offshore/on-site locations per project requirement.
Work involves manual labour: sanding, scraping, painting, lifting, sometimes working at heights or in confined spaces, depending on structure.
Use of protective gear (gloves, respirators/masks, safety glasses, helmets) mandatory.
Work schedule aligned with project timelines; may involve shifts, overtime, or project-based schedules depending on work demands.
