JOB DESCRIPTION – DIE MAKER & TOOL ROOM SUPERVISOR

Reporting To: Plant Head / Operations Head
JOB PURPOSE
To handle die manufacturing, die maintenance, tool room management, and production support to ensure dies, moulds, tools, and fixtures are available and maintained as per production requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Die Making & Development
Manufacture, assemble, modify, and repair dies, moulds, jigs, fixtures, and tools.
Read and understand engineering drawings and dimensions.
Ensure dies are manufactured as per required specifications and quality standards.
Carry out die trials and necessary corrections before production approval.
Coordinate with Production and Quality teams for new die development.
2. Die Maintenance
Plan and execute preventive and breakdown maintenance of dies and moulds.
Identify die-related production problems and take corrective action.
Maintain proper records of die maintenance, repair, modification, and trial history.
Ensure dies are properly cleaned, stored, and protected after use.
3. Tool Room Management
Overall responsibility for day-to-day Tool Room activities.
Maintain proper control and availability of dies, moulds, tools, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and related equipment.
Maintain Tool/Dies Register with identification number, location, condition, and status.
Control issue and return of dies/tools to and from production.
Ensure proper housekeeping, safety, and discipline in the Tool Room.
Maintain minimum stock of essential tool-room consumables and spares.
4. Production Support
Coordinate with Production Planning to understand upcoming die/tool requirements.
Ensure required dies and tools are ready before the production schedule.
Attend urgent die/tool breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
Support production teams in die setting, adjustment, and troubleshooting.
5. Team Management
Supervise Tool Room/DIE Maker team and allocate daily work.
Monitor manpower productivity and work completion.
Train team members on proper die maintenance, handling, and safety practices.
Ensure work is completed within committed timelines.
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily Tool Room work reports.
Maintain records of:
Die Manufacturing
Die Modification
Die Repair
Preventive Maintenance
Die Trials
Tool Issue & Return
Breakdown & Downtime
Tool Room Inventory
Submit daily/weekly status reports to the reporting manager.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Diploma in Tool & Die Making, Fitter, Mechanical, or equivalent.
5–10 years of relevant experience in Tool Room / Die Making / Manufacturing.
Practical knowledge of die manufacturing, maintenance, fitting, and assembly.
Experience in plastic injection moulds, press/stamping dies, or electrical component manufacturing will be preferred.
Ability to read engineering drawings and use measuring instruments.
Good knowledge of hand tools, grinding, drilling, fitting, and machining processes.
Basic knowledge of preventive maintenance and tool-room inventory management.
Good team handling and problem-solving skills.
