Network Engineer – Job Role Description

A Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting computer networks to ensure reliable connectivity, security, and performance across an organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and maintain LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks.

• Install and support networking hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, access points).

• Monitor network performance and ensure uptime, speed, and reliability.

• Troubleshoot network issues and provide escalation support.

• Implement and maintain network security measures (firewalls, IDS/IPS, access control).

• Collaborate with IT teams to support servers, cloud, and hybrid environments.

• Document network configurations, standards, and procedures.

• Perform upgrades and patches on network systems.

• Ensure compliance with IT security and data protection policies.

Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).

• Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or similar networking equipment.

• Familiarity with firewalls, load balancers, and network monitoring tools.

• Cloud networking knowledge (AWS, Azure, GCP – optional but valuable).

• Problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
