1. Job Summary
The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and uninterrupted operation of all electrical systems and equipment across the dealership, including the showroom, workshop, service areas, office premises, and other facility infrastructure.
The role involves preventive and breakdown maintenance, electrical fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair and replacement of electrical components, monitoring power distribution systems, maintaining DG sets and UPS systems, and ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards. The candidate will also coordinate with external service providers, maintain maintenance records, and support the dealership's day-to-day electrical and facility maintenance requirements.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Electrical Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of electrical installations across the showroom, workshop, service bays, offices, and other dealership areas.
Identify, troubleshoot, and rectify electrical faults in wiring, switches, sockets, lighting systems, distribution boards, and electrical equipment.
Inspect and maintain single-phase and three-phase electrical systems.
Attend to electrical breakdowns promptly to minimize operational downtime.
Repair or replace defective electrical components, including MCBs, MCCBs, contactors, relays, fuses, switches, sockets, and cables, as authorized.
Ensure the proper functioning of internal and external lighting, emergency lights, and signage lighting.
Carry out electrical installation work, cable laying, termination, and wiring modifications as required.
Inspect electrical panels for loose connections, overheating, abnormal noise, and other potential hazards.
B. Preventive and Planned Maintenance
Prepare and follow daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance schedules for electrical systems and equipment.
Conduct periodic inspections of electrical panels, distribution boards, cabling, earthing systems, and connected loads.
Perform routine checks to identify potential electrical failures before they affect dealership operations.
Maintain preventive maintenance checklists and ensure timely completion of scheduled activities.
Monitor equipment performance and recommend repairs, replacements, or upgrades when necessary.
Coordinate periodic servicing of electrical installations through authorized contractors wherever required.
C. Power Distribution and Electrical Infrastructure
Monitor the dealership's main electrical supply, distribution panels, sub-panels, and associated infrastructure.
Check phase balancing, load distribution, voltage fluctuations, and abnormal power consumption.
Inspect and maintain earthing connections and electrical protection systems.
Coordinate with the electricity utility or authorized electrical contractors for supply-related issues, as required.
Support electrical load assessments for new equipment, additional service bays, office modifications, and other expansion activities.
Ensure proper electrical connections and safe power availability for workshop machinery, service equipment, and office facilities.
D. DG Set, UPS, and Backup Power Systems
Conduct routine operational checks of diesel generator (DG) sets and associated electrical systems.
Monitor generator starting systems, control panels, battery condition, alarms, and changeover arrangements.
Check the functioning of automatic or manual changeover systems, as applicable.
Coordinate scheduled servicing and breakdown repairs of DG sets with authorized service providers.
Monitor UPS systems, batteries, and backup power arrangements for critical equipment.
Maintain DG and UPS inspection logs and report abnormalities to the reporting manager.
Ensure safe and timely restoration of power during supply interruptions.
E. HVAC and Other Electrical Equipment
Perform basic electrical inspection and troubleshooting of air-conditioning systems, ventilation equipment, exhaust fans, and related controls.
Coordinate with HVAC technicians for servicing and repair of air-conditioning equipment.
Inspect and maintain electrical connections for water pumps, motors, compressors, pressure washers, and other workshop equipment.
Check motor starters, contactors, overload relays, and control circuits.
Attend to electrical issues involving automatic doors, lifts, access control systems, and other electrically operated equipment within the candidate's authorized scope.
Coordinate specialist repairs whenever the work requires specific technical expertise or certification.
F. Workshop and Service Facility Support
Ensure the safe and reliable electrical operation of workshop equipment, service bays, inspection areas, and vehicle maintenance facilities.
Inspect electrical outlets and power points used for diagnostic tools, battery chargers, lifts, compressors, and other service equipment.
Attend to electrical complaints raised by the Service, Sales, Spare Parts, and other departments.
Ensure that electrical installations do not obstruct vehicle movement or create hazards for employees and customers.
Support electrical requirements for new equipment installation, equipment shifting, and workshop layout changes.
Coordinate with equipment suppliers and authorized technicians for specialized machinery maintenance.
G. Safety and Statutory Compliance
Follow applicable electrical safety procedures, company policies, and statutory requirements.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and approved tools while carrying out maintenance activities.
Isolate electrical supplies and follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, where applicable, before working on equipment.
Ensure proper earthing, circuit protection, insulation, and safe cable routing.
Never perform live electrical work unless specifically authorized and legally permitted under applicable procedures.
Identify and report electrical hazards, exposed wiring, overloaded circuits, damaged cables, and unsafe installations.
Maintain electrical safety inspection records and support internal audits and statutory inspections.
Ensure that electrical work requiring a licensed contractor or authorized supervisor is carried out by appropriately qualified personnel.
H. Facility Inspection and Maintenance
Conduct routine electrical and facility inspections of the showroom, workshop, office, parking areas, and external premises.
Check lighting, electrical fittings, distribution boards, and power points for safe operation.
Coordinate with housekeeping and facility teams to ensure that electrical rooms and panel areas remain clean, dry, accessible, and free from obstruction.
Monitor water pumps and other essential electrical infrastructure.
Report civil, plumbing, or other facility issues that may affect electrical safety or equipment operation.
Assist in emergency maintenance activities and support the restoration of essential services.
I. Tools, Spares, and Inventory Management
Maintain an inventory of electrical tools, consumables, and commonly used spare parts.
Track the usage of cables, switches, MCBs, contactors, fuses, lamps, and other electrical materials.
Raise material requests and obtain approval before purchasing electrical spares.
Ensure proper storage and safe handling of electrical tools and materials.
Maintain records of materials issued, consumed, repaired, or replaced.
Report shortages and recommend the stocking of essential spare parts to minimize downtime.
J. Vendor and Contractor Coordination
Coordinate with electrical contractors, DG service providers, UPS technicians, HVAC vendors, and other specialist service providers.
Explain technical issues and arrange service visits when required.
Monitor the quality and timely completion of outsourced maintenance work.
Verify the scope of work completed and report any pending issues to the reporting manager.
Check service reports and maintenance bills against the work performed before forwarding them for approval.
Ensure that external technicians follow dealership safety and access procedures.
K. Documentation and Maintenance Reporting
Maintain daily maintenance logs, electrical breakdown registers, and preventive maintenance records.
Record electrical complaints, fault details, corrective actions, spare parts consumed, and closure dates.
Prepare reports on recurring electrical faults, equipment downtime, and pending maintenance activities.
Maintain inspection records for electrical panels, DG sets, UPS systems, and other essential equipment.
Track preventive maintenance schedules and report overdue activities.
Inform the reporting manager about major breakdowns, safety risks, recurring failures, and maintenance expenditure.
Support audits by providing accurate maintenance and safety documentation.
L. Energy Management and Cost Control
Monitor electricity consumption and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary power usage.
Ensure that lighting, air-conditioning, and other electrical equipment are switched off when not required.
Identify inefficient lighting, abnormal electrical loads, and avoidable energy losses.
Recommend energy-saving measures, such as LED lighting and improved operating practices.
Avoid unnecessary replacement of components through proper troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
Support initiatives to reduce electrical maintenance costs without compromising safety or equipment reliability.
3. Required Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE); OR
ITI in Electrician / Electrical Trade from a recognized institution.
Practical knowledge of electrical wiring, electrical panels, motors, circuit breakers, and electrical maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of electrical safety practices and basic electrical testing instruments.
4. Experience
Preferably 0-2 years of experience in electrical maintenance, facility maintenance, industrial maintenance, or commercial building maintenance.
Experience in automobile dealerships, service workshops, manufacturing facilities, hospitals, malls, or large commercial establishments is an added advantage.
Fresh ITI or EEE candidates with strong practical skills may be considered for a junior-level position.
