Quantity Surveyor

Main Roles of QS:

1. Quantity Take-Off & Estimation

• Prepare quantity calculations from drawings

• Calculate material quantities (cement, steel, tiles, partitions, etc.)

• Prepare cost estimates

2. BOQ Preparation

• Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ)

• Define item descriptions, quantities, units, and rates

• Check BOQ against drawings and specifications

3. Cost Control

• Track project budget

• Compare estimated cost vs actual cost

• Control unnecessary expenses

4. Tendering & Quotation Work

• Prepare tender documents

• Float enquiries to vendors/subcontractors

• Compare quotations and prepare comparison statements

5. Billing & Measurement

• Check contractor/subcontractor bills

• Verify site measurements

• Prepare running bills (RA Bills)

• Process payment certification

6. Variation / Extra Work Management

• Identify additional works

• Prepare variation statements

• Calculate extra cost and approvals

7. Rate Analysis

• Prepare rates for new items

• Analyse material + labour + equipment costs

8. Procurement Support

• Prepare material requirement

• Compare supplier prices

• Support purchase decisions

9. Contract Management

• Maintain contract documents

• Handle claims, delays, and commercial issues

10. Final Account Settlement

• Prepare final project cost

• Close subcontractor accounts

• Complete final billing
