Fitness Equipment Technician / Field Service Technician
Job Summary
Responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of various fitness equipment through expert installation, diagnostic troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance for both commercial gyms and home users, often involving travel to client sites.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Assembly: Assemble, install, and set up new fitness equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
Maintenance: Conduct routine preventative maintenance (inspections, lubrication, adjustments) on cardio and strength equipment.
Repairs: Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues; repair or replace faulty components (belts, motors, electronics, upholstery).
Customer Service: Communicate effectively with clients, explain repairs, provide recommendations, and ensure high customer satisfaction.
Documentation: Complete accurate work orders, service reports, and maintain records using field service software.
Inventory: Manage parts inventory, order necessary components, and ensure timely restocking.
Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols and industry standards during all maintenance and repair activities.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of how machines work.
Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose complex issues.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with electronics, hydraulics, and mechanics of fitness machines.
Customer Focus: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Organization: Detail-oriented with strong record-keeping habits.
Physical Ability: Capable of lifting heavy equipment and traveling.
Work Environment
Field-based, requiring local travel to various customer locations (gyms, homes).
Can involve working in noisy, busy, or tight spaces.
May require working independently or collaborating with other technicians.
