Job Summary
The Sales Trainer designs, implements, and facilitates engaging training programs covering product knowledge, sales methodologies, communication skills, and CRM/sales technology usage. The primary goal is to elevate the performance of the sales organization, reduce ramp-up time for new hires, and ensure consistent application of best practices across the team.
Key Responsibilities
Training Development and Delivery
Curriculum Design: Develop comprehensive, engaging, and relevant training content, including presentations, workbooks, role-playing scenarios, and e-learning modules.
Onboarding: Manage the entire onboarding process for new Sales representatives, ensuring they are quickly brought up to speed on company products, sales processes, and compliance requirements.
Facilitation: Deliver training sessions both in-person and virtually on topics such as prospecting, negotiation, objection handling, closing techniques, and strategic account planning.
Continuous Education: Conduct ongoing training sessions for tenured staff on new product launches, market changes, or updated sales strategies and tools.
Evaluation and Improvement
Needs Assessment: Collaborate with Sales leadership and managers to conduct training needs assessments and identify skill gaps within the team.
Effectiveness Measurement: Establish clear metrics and assessment tools (e.g., quizzes, ride-along, performance data analysis) to measure the effectiveness and impact of training programs on sales performance.
Content Updates: Continuously update and revise training materials to reflect changes in product features, competitive landscape, and company strategy.
Coaching and Collaboration
Coaching: Provide one-on-one and group coaching, role-playing exercises, and live feedback to Sales representatives, reinforcing concepts learned in training.
Resource Creation: Create and manage a centralized knowledge base or sales enablement platform containing up-to-date sales collateral and training resources.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with Product Marketing, Product Development, and Sales Operations to ensure all training content is accurate and aligned with organizational goals.
Technology Training: Train the sales team on the effective use of sales technology, including the CRM system (e.g., Salesforce) and sales engagement platforms.
Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Education, or a related field.
Experience: 4-5 years of experience in Sales, with a strong preference for candidates who have transitioned from a top-performing sales role into a training function.
Training Experience: 4-5 years of experience in designing and delivering professional training programs, preferably in a fast-paced B2B environment.
Technical Proficiency: High proficiency in presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint, Google Slides) and experience using learning management systems (LMS) and CRM platforms.
Key Competencies
Presentation Skills: Exceptional public speaking and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate an audience.
Sales Acumen: Deep understanding of the sales lifecycle, B2B sales methodologies (e.g., Challenger, SPIN, Sandler), and best practices.
Instructional Design: Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design best practices.
Coaching & Feedback: Strong coaching skills, with the ability to provide constructive and actionable feedback.
