Job Summary

The Commis Chef is responsible for assisting the Head chef in preparing high-quality food while maintaining consistency, hygiene, and efficiency in kitchen operations. The role requires a passion for cooking, willingness to learn, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced café environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients and basic food items as per standard recipes.

• Assist in the preparation and cooking of café menu items, including breakfast dishes, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, salads, pizzas, desserts, and beverages as assigned.

• Ensure consistency in food quality, taste, presentation, and portion control.

• Follow instructions from the Head Chef and Chef de Partie during food preparation and service.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the assigned kitchen section.

• Adhere to FSSAI food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.

• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and stock rotation (FIFO) of all food items.

• Minimize food wastage and report shortages or quality issues to the senior chef.

• Assist in receiving and storing kitchen deliveries.

• Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any malfunction immediately.

• Support the kitchen team during busy service hours to ensure timely order preparation.

• Participate in menu trials, recipe development, and special events whenever required.

• Carry out any additional kitchen-related responsibilities assigned by the management or Head Chef.

Skills & Requirements

• Certificate or Diploma in Culinary Arts preferred.

• 1–2 years of experience in a café, restaurant, or hotel kitchen.

• Basic knowledge of Continental, Italian, and café-style cuisine is an advantage.

• Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.

• Ability to work under pressure and in rotational shifts.

• Good teamwork, communication, and time management skills.

• Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and grow.
