Academic Counsellor

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one academic counselling and support to students.

• Assist students in developing individualized academic plans based on their goals, abilities, and program requirements.

• Guide students in course selection, program changes, and degree requirements.

• Identify and support students experiencing academic difficulties or at risk of underperforming.

• Refer students to appropriate campus resources such as tutoring, mental health services, or career counselling.

• Monitor and track student academic progress and follow up as needed.

• Conduct academic workshops, orientation sessions, and seminars.

• Maintain accurate and confidential student records and counselling documentation.

• Collaborate with faculty and administration to support student academic success.

• Stay updated on institutional policies, academic programs, and curriculum changes.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

• Previous experience in academic advising, student counselling, or higher education.

• Strong knowledge of academic policies, curriculum planning, and learning strategies.

• Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.

• Ability to work with diverse student populations.

• Organizational and problem-solving skills.

• Familiarity with student information systems and academic management tools.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of learning disabilities and educational accommodations.

• Experience in counselling students in high schools, colleges, or universities.

• Multilingual abilities are an asset.

• Certification in counselling or academic advising (if applicable).

Work Environment:

• Office setting within a school, college, or university.

• May require occasional evenings or weekends during peak advising periods or student events.
