Job Summary

The Welder is responsible for carrying out precision welding, fabrication, assembly, repair, and maintenance activities using Arc, TIG, MIG, and Laser welding processes. The role requires producing high-quality welds that meet engineering drawings, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and quality standards while maintaining strict adherence to safety regulations.

The ideal candidate should possess excellent fabrication skills, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to work independently or as part of a production team to achieve manufacturing targets.

Key Responsibilities

Welding Operations

• Perform high-quality welding using Arc, TIG, MIG, and Laser welding processes.

• Prepare metal surfaces before welding through cutting, cleaning, grinding, and edge preparation.

• Select the correct welding method based on material type and thickness.

• Perform butt joints, lap joints, fillet welds, groove welds, and structural welding.

• Produce smooth, defect-free welds with proper penetration and finish.

• Carry out welding on mild steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and other metals as required.

• Perform continuous, intermittent, vertical, horizontal, overhead, and flat-position welding.

Fabrication Activities

• Fabricate machine parts, structural frames, platforms, supports, brackets, ducts, tanks, and other fabricated components.

• Measure, mark, cut, bend, drill, and assemble materials according to drawings.

• Fit and align components before welding.

• Perform tack welding and final welding operations.

• Ensure dimensional accuracy throughout fabrication.

Reading Technical Drawings

• Read engineering drawings, fabrication layouts, blueprints, welding symbols, and technical specifications.

• Interpret welding procedure specifications (WPS) and work instructions.

• Verify dimensions using measuring instruments before fabrication.

• Identify material specifications and welding requirements.

Inspection & Quality Control

• Inspect welds for cracks, porosity, undercut, overlap, distortion, and incomplete fusion.

• Perform visual inspection before releasing finished jobs.

• Ensure weld quality complies with company standards.

• Rectify welding defects whenever required.

• Maintain proper welding documentation and production records.

Equipment Operation

• Operate Arc welding machines.

• Operate TIG welding machines.

• Operate MIG welding machines.

• Operate Laser welding equipment.

• Use gas cutting equipment safely.

• Operate grinding and polishing machines.

• Perform routine maintenance of welding equipment.

• Report equipment malfunctions immediately.

Material Handling

• Handle raw materials carefully to prevent damage.

• Identify welding consumables and filler materials.

• Maintain inventory of welding rods, electrodes, wires, gases, and accessories.

• Store materials safely according to company procedures.

Safety Responsibilities

• Strictly follow company safety rules and standard operating procedures.

• Wear PPE including welding helmet, gloves, apron, safety shoes, goggles, and face shield.

• Follow fire prevention and hot work permit procedures.

• Maintain housekeeping in the work area.

• Report unsafe conditions and near-miss incidents immediately.

• Ensure safe handling of gas cylinders and electrical equipment.

Productivity & Continuous Improvement

• Meet daily production targets.

• Minimize material wastage.

• Improve welding efficiency and productivity.

• Participate in Kaizen, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Support supervisors during production planning and execution.

Qualifications

Essential

• ITI in Welder Trade or equivalent qualification.

Preferred

• NCVT/SCVT Certificate.

• Welding certification in TIG, MIG, Arc, or Laser welding.

• Additional fabrication or mechanical certification is an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 3–4 years of practical experience in Arc, TIG, MIG, and Laser welding.

• Experience in heavy fabrication, industrial manufacturing, mechanical equipment, or structural fabrication preferred.

• Experience working in production and fabrication environments.

• Knowledge of welding standards and quality inspection practices.
