Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sheet Metal Design Engineer with experience in SolidWorks to design, develop, and optimize sheet metal components and assemblies for manufacturing. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, engineering drawings, and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop sheet metal parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
Create 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and BOM (Bill of Materials).
Prepare flat patterns for laser cutting, CNC punching, bending, and fabrication.
Ensure designs comply with manufacturing standards, quality requirements, and customer specifications.
Coordinate with production, fabrication, and quality teams to resolve design and manufacturing issues.
Review engineering drawings and implement design modifications as required.
Optimize designs to reduce manufacturing costs and improve product performance.
Support prototype development, testing, and production implementation.
Maintain engineering documentation, design revisions, and project records.
Follow company safety, quality, and engineering standards.
Required Skills
Proficiency in SolidWorks, including Sheet Metal, Weldments, and Assembly modules.
Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes such as laser cutting, CNC punching, bending, welding, and assembly.
Ability to create detailed engineering drawings in accordance with industry standards.
Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Familiarity with BOM preparation and manufacturing documentation.
Understanding of material selection, tolerances, and fabrication techniques.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
2–5 years of experience in sheet metal design and fabrication.
Hands-on experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Experience working in manufacturing or fabrication industries is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
Experience with nesting software and CNC programming is an advantage.
Familiarity with ISO quality standards and lean manufacturing practices.
