Inspect incoming raw materials such as plates, sections, pipes, castings and bought-out components.
Verify material certificates (MTC) and ensure materials meet drawing/specification requirements.
Perform in-process inspection during fabrication and machining.
Check dimensions using Vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, bore gauge, measuring tape, etc.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, dimensional tolerances and specifications.
Inspect fabricated components for welding defects, distortion, dimensional accuracy and visual quality.
Perform weld inspection and coordinate/understand NDT such as DPT, MPI, UT and RT, depending on project requirements.
Check welding parameters, joint preparation, fit-up, weld size and weld visual quality.
Inspect CNC-machined components for dimensional and surface requirements.
Prepare and maintain inspection reports, check sheets, quality records and final inspection reports.
Conduct first-piece/first-off inspection and support production during new component development.
Identify non-conforming products (NCR) and coordinate corrective action with Production and Engineering.
Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa and 8D.
Monitor rework, rejection and rejection percentage and work on reducing defects.
Coordinate with Production, Welding, Machining and Engineering teams to resolve quality problems.
Ensure products are manufactured according to customer drawings and specifications.
Support customer inspection and third-party inspection when required.
Maintain calibration status of measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
Participate in internal audits, process audits and quality-system activities.
Follow ISO 9001:2015 quality-system requirements.
For fabrication/welding work, understand relevant ISO 3834 requirements and welding-quality practices.
Support continuous improvement / Six Sigma / defect reduction activities, which aligns with PMEL's stated quality approach.
