Job Title: Paint Shop Engineer

Reporting To: Finishing / Production Manager
Job Purpose
To plan, operate, control, and continuously improve paint shop operations ensuring high-quality surface finishing, productivity, cost control, safety, and compliance with customer and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities
Production & Process Control
• Manage daily paint shop operations (spray painting, liquid painting).
• Ensure adherence to production plans, cycle times, and delivery schedules.
• Control process parameters such as paint viscosity, DFT, oven temperature, and curing time.
• Optimize paint consumption and reduce rework, rejection, and wastage.
Quality Assurance
• Ensure paint quality as per customer specifications (shade, gloss, adhesion, thickness).
• Conduct routine inspections and testing (DFT, cross-hatch adhesion, salt spray if applicable).
• Analyze defects like peeling, blistering, orange peel, shade variation, pinholes, etc.
• Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Equipment & Maintenance
• Ensure proper operation and preventive maintenance of paint booths, ovens, guns, conveyors, and compressors.
• Coordinate with maintenance for breakdowns and equipment improvements.
• Monitor calibration of measuring instruments.
Material & Inventory Control
• Manage paints, thinners, chemicals, and consumables inventory.
• Ensure FIFO, shelf-life control, and proper storage of hazardous materials.
• Coordinate with stores and vendors for timely availability of materials.
Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, MSDS, and PPE usage.
• Maintain paint shop housekeeping (5S).
• Ensure proper waste disposal and EHS compliance (VOC control, effluent, sludge handling).
Continuous Improvement
• Implement Kaizen, TPM, and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Support process automation and new product trials.
• Participate in audits (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IATF, customer audits).
People Management
• Train and guide operators on painting techniques, quality standards, and safety.
• Monitor manpower productivity and skill development.

Key Skills & Competencies
• Strong knowledge of paint shop processes (liquid).
• Understanding of metal surface preparation and pretreatment.
• Ability to troubleshoot paint defects.
• Knowledge of quality systems and EHS norms.
• Basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S.

Qualification & Experience
• Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Chemical/ Paint Technology, or Production Engineering.
• Experience: 2–3 years in paint shop operations in a manufacturing environment (metal components preferred).

Preferred Industry Experience
• Metal finishing, die-casting, automotive components, hardware, buckles, or similar industries.
