Hardware Engineer

A hardware and network engineer installs, and maintains an organization's computer hardware and network infrastructure, ensuring reliable connectivity, security, and performance. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware and network issues, implementing network security measures like configuring routers and switches, and managing network performance through monitoring and upgrades. They often collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and end-users to optimize system performance, deploy new technologies, and resolve technical problems. 

Key Responsibilities

• Hardware Management:

  Install, troubleshoot, and replace defective hardware components. 

• Network Design & Implementation:

  Design, build, and install network infrastructure, including LANs, WANs, wireless networks, routers, switches, and firewalls. 

• Network Monitoring & Performance Optimization:

  Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement changes to maximize speed and minimize latency. 

• Security Management:

  Implement and maintain security protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and encryption to protect sensitive data and network systems. 

• Troubleshooting:

  Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues affecting connectivity and performance. 

• Documentation:

  Maintain up-to-date documentation for network configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides. 

• Collaboration:

  Work with IT teams, application programmers, and third-party vendors on projects and issue resolution. 

• Upgrades & Maintenance:

  Perform routine maintenance, implement patches, and update network equipment. 

Skills & Qualifications

• Technical Expertise:

  Strong knowledge of network protocols (e.g., IP, DNS, DHCP), hardware (routers, switches, firewalls), operating systems (Windows, macOS), and networking technologies (LAN, WAN, VPNs). 

• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:

  Ability to analyse system data, conduct root cause analysis, and find effective solutions to technical problems. 

• Documentation Skills:

  Ability to create clear and comprehensive specifications and documentation. 

• Communication Skills:

  Ability to communicate effectively with IT colleagues, vendors, and users to resolve issues and collaborate on projects. 

• Certifications:

  Specialized certifications in networking such as CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Solutions, or Cisco certifications can be beneficial.
