Academic Counselor Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Academic Counselor to join our team. The Academic Counselor will be responsible for providing comprehensive guidance and support to students as they navigate their educational and career paths. A key focus of this role is achieving target admission rates for our institution.
Key Responsibilities
Student Guidance and Support
• Provide individual and group counseling to students on academic planning, course selection, and graduation requirements.
• Assist students in understanding their academic strengths, weaknesses, and potential career options.
• Guide students through the college and university application process, including essay review, application submission, and financial aid awareness.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes.
• Collaborate with faculty and administration to address student needs and resolve academic issues.
Admissions and Recruitment
• Achieve and exceed set annual targets for student admission to the institution's programs.
• Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit prospective students from various sources (e.g., high schools, community events, online platforms).
• Conduct informational sessions, presentations, and campus tours for prospective students and their families.
• Follow up with prospective students throughout the application and enrollment process to ensure a high yield rate.
• Analyze admissions data and trends to refine recruitment and counseling strategies.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with high school counselors, teachers, and other community partners.
Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in academic advising, college counseling, or admissions recruitment, with a proven track record of meeting admission targets.
• Skills:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to counsel diverse student populations.
Reporting Structure
The Academic Counselor will report directly to the Director of Admis
sions and Student Services.
