Position Title: Welding Operator
Position Objective:
The Welding Operator is responsible for carrying out welding operations using SPM / TIG welding machines, ensuring correct setup, stable welding parameters, defect-free welds, and adherence to safety, quality, and productivity standards in line with PPM’s manufacturing requirements.
Role Purpose:
This role ensures consistent and high-quality welding of components by proper electrode management, gas control, fixture setup, HMI operation, and sequence control, while maintaining discipline in safety, documentation, and housekeeping.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform welding operations as per approved SOPs, drawings, and work instructions.
• Manage electrode changeover and grind electrodes to specified angles to control arc cone shape.
• Carry out gas changeover and ensure correct gas pressure and gas flow settings.
• Operate HMI / control panel to input weld sequences, travel speeds, and rotation timings.
• Set correct torch angle and stand-off distance between tungsten and workpiece to ensure arc stability.
• Understand and follow welding sequence logic: Pre-flow → Arc Start → Weld Travel → Crater Fill → Post-flow.
• Identify basic welding defects and report abnormalities to supervisor.
• Ensure proper clamping and positioning of workpieces in jigs and fixtures, especially for SPM welding.
• Maintain and update check sheets, production records, and quality documents.
• Follow 5S, Kaizen practices, and housekeeping standards in welding area.
• Ensure strict use of PPE and compliance with safety procedures.
• Meet shift-wise production targets with minimal rejection and rework.
Required Technical Skills:
• Knowledge of electrode handling, changeover, and grinding techniques.
• Understanding of welding gases, pressure regulation, and flow control.
• Basic knowledge of common welding defects.
• Ability to operate HMI / control panel for welding machines.
• Understanding of welding sequences and parameter logic.
• Knowledge of torch positioning, stand-off distance, and arc stability.
• Ability to work with fixtures, jigs, and tooling setups.
Behavioral Attributes:
• Strong safety and quality orientation.
• Attention to detail and consistency in work.
• Discipline in following SOPs and instructions.
• Willingness to work in shifts and shop-floor environment.
• Team player with good coordination skills.
Qualification & Experience:
• ITI / Diploma in Welding / Fitter / Mechanical or relevant trade.
• Experience in TIG / SPM welding operations in manufacturing setup.
