About the role
We are a precision metal fabrication shop supplying pipe spools and fabricated assemblies to process industries (water treatment, power, petrochemical, oil & gas). We are looking for an experienced welder capable of producing high-quality welds on both Carbon Steel (CS) and Stainless Steel (SS) spools that consistently clear radiographic examination.
Key responsibilities
Weld CS and SS pipe spools as per fabrication drawings, isometrics, and approved WPS.
Perform GTAW (TIG) root runs and SMAW (Arc) fill/cap — or full TIG where specified — on pipe joints.
Produce welds that pass Radiographic Testing (RT) with a low repair/rejection rate.
Carry out proper joint fit-up, alignment, tacking, and edge preparation.
Maintain argon back-purging on SS root runs to prevent oxidation/sugaring.
Follow WPS parameters (current, preheat/interpass, filler selection) accurately.
Prevent cross-contamination between CS and SS (dedicated tools, grinding discs, wire brushes).
Maintain housekeeping and follow all safety/PPE requirements for hot work.
Requirements
Proven experience welding CS and SS pipe spools (minimum [X] years).
Qualified in both GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (Arc) processes.
Welder qualification as per ASME Section IX (WPQ) — or the ability to qualify on our WPS before/during probation.
Demonstrated experience producing radiography-quality welds on pipe.
Ability to read fabrication drawings, isometrics, and WPS.
Familiarity with SS purging techniques and CS preheat/interpass control.
ITI in Welder trade preferred.
Preferred / added advantage
Position qualifications up to 6G (all-position pipe welding).
Experience across a range of pipe sizes, schedules, and wall thicknesses.
Working knowledge of common grades: CS (A106 / A53 / IS 1239), SS 304/304L, SS 316/316L.
Exposure to FCAW.
Experience working to third-party inspection (TPI) requirements.
