A mechanical fitter builds, installs, maintains, and repairs factory machinery, heavy equipment, and mechanical components according to precise technical blueprints. Key responsibilities include interpreting technical drawings, assembling mechanical parts, and performing diagnostic maintenance.
Core Responsibilities
Assembly & Installation: Read blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to position, align, and secure parts like gears, shafts, bearings, and valves.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine checkups, run diagnostic tests, and listen for unusual equipment sounds to spot mechanical faults.
Repair & Fabrication: Disassemble broken machinery, replace worn components, and use hand tools, power tools, or welding equipment to shape and modify parts.
Safety & Compliance: Follow workplace safety rules, execute lockout/tagout procedures, and keep the work area clean.
