Pattern Disassembly & Split Lines: The designer must know exactly where to split a pattern into a cope (top) and drag (bottom) to allow clean extraction from the sand box without tearing the mould walls.
Core Print Design: Deep expertise in designing core prints—protrusions added to the pattern that create seats in the sand mould to physically anchor and support heavy sand cores.
Chills and Chaplets Integration: Ability to position internal structural supports (chaplets) to prevent cores from floating in molten metal, and metallic inserts (chills) to control directional cooling.
Crush Strips & Sand Relieves: Knowledge of adding micro-geometry in NX to prevent sand from crushing and breaking when the cope and drag flasks are clamped together.
