Assistant Storekeeper

The Assistant Store Keeper is responsible for supporting the Store Keeper in the receipt, storage, issuance, and inventory control of food, beverages, packaging materials, cleaning supplies, and other operational items. The role ensures proper stock management, adherence to food safety standards, and uninterrupted restaurant operations.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management

• Assist in receiving all materials and verify quantity and quality against purchase orders and delivery notes.

• Ensure proper storage of food and non-food items as per company standards.

• Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) and FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) principles.

• Maintain stock levels and report low-stock items to the Store Keeper.

• Assist in conducting daily, weekly, and monthly stock counts.

• Support inventory reconciliation and variance investigations.

Store Operations

• Issue materials to kitchen and restaurant departments against approved requisitions.

• Maintain accurate records of stock receipts, issues, transfers, and returns.

• Organize the store to ensure cleanliness, accessibility, and proper labeling.

• Monitor expiry dates and damaged items and report discrepancies immediately.

• Ensure proper handling of temperature-sensitive and perishable products.

Documentation

• Maintain Goods Receipt Notes (GRN), stock registers, issue registers, and inventory records.

• Update inventory in ERP/POS or inventory management software.

• File invoices, delivery challans, and store-related documents systematically.

Hygiene & Safety

• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the store area.

• Ensure compliance with Food Safety, HACCP, and company SOPs.

• Follow safety procedures while handling heavy materials and equipment.

• Ensure pest-control and sanitation standards are maintained.

Coordination

• Coordinate with the Purchase Department, Kitchen, and Restaurant Operations for timely stock availability.

• Assist suppliers during deliveries and ensure proper unloading and storage.

• Support internal and external inventory audits.

Required Qualifications

• Higher Secondary (12th Pass) or Diploma/Graduate preferred.

• Certification in Store Management or Inventory Management is an added advantage.

Experience

• 1–3 years of experience in stores or inventory management.

• Experience in a restaurant, hotel, catering, or hospitality industry is preferred.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of inventory control and stock management.

• Understanding of FIFO, FEFO, and food storage practices.

• Basic computer knowledge (MS Excel, ERP/POS systems).

• Good organizational and documentation skills.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Good communication and teamwork skills.

• Ability to lift and handle stock safely.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Inventory accuracy of 98% or above.

• Timely issuance of materials.

• Minimal stock variance and wastage.

• Zero expired stock due to poor inventory control.

• Proper documentation and record maintenance.

• Compliance with hygiene and food safety standards.

Working Conditions

• Rotational shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

• Standing, lifting, and moving stock as part of daily duties.

• Work in dry stores, cold rooms, and freezer areas as required.
