The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a company’s fleet of vehicles. This includes scheduling maintenance, ensuring compliance with transport regulations, managing driver performance, optimizing fuel usage, and ensuring that transport services run smoothly, efficiently, and cost-effectively. The Fleet Manager plays a crucial role in reducing downtime, improving vehicle lifespan, and increasing overall fleet productivity.
Fleet Operations Management:
Manage day-to-day operations of the vehicle fleet, including dispatch, routing, and scheduling.
Vehicle Maintenance:
Schedule regular maintenance, repairs, and inspections to reduce breakdowns and ensure roadworthiness.
Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure all vehicles and drivers comply with government regulations, safety standards, and licensing requirements.
Driver Management:
Monitor driver performance, safety, hours of service, and training requirements.
Cost Control:
Track and control operational expenses like fuel, maintenance, and tolls to reduce costs.
Data Reporting & Analysis:
Maintain and analyze fleet reports such as mileage, downtime, fuel usage, and repair costs to drive performance improvements.
Route Optimization:
Use software or manual planning to design efficient routes that save time and fuel.
Asset Management:
Maintain accurate inventory records of vehicles and equipment, including insurance and lease agreements.
Emergency Handling:
Respond to breakdowns, accidents, or logistical delays and ensure contingency plans are in place.
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation, Business Management, or equivalent.
3–5 years of experience in fleet or logistics management (transportation industry preferred).
Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics and transport regulations.
Familiarity with fleet management systems and GPS tracking tools.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in MS Excel or fleet management software.
Ability to handle pressure and make decisions quickly.
