Core Responsibilities
Guest Service: Greeting guests warmly, presenting menus, explaining daily specials, and answering questions about ingredients or potential allergens.
Order Management: Accurately taking food and beverage orders and communicating them efficiently to the kitchen or bar staff using POS (Point of Sale) systems.
Table Maintenance: Serving dishes and drinks promptly, checking back to ensure food quality, refilling water glasses, and clearing empty plates (bussing) between courses.
Financial Transactions: Preparing the final bill, processing cash, credit, or mobile payments accurately, and returning change.
Side Work: Setting up tables with proper cutlery and glassware, polishing silverware, and ensuring the dining area remains spotless.
Essential Skills Needed
Active Listening & Communication: Understanding exactly what a guest wants—even subtle cues like a hesitation over a menu item—and coordinating smoothly with back-of-house chefs.
Stamina & Agility: Stewards spend hours on their feet, carrying heavy trays of hot food and navigating crowded dining rooms under pressure.
Memory & Multi-tasking: Keeping track of who ordered which dish at a large table while mentally pacing the timing of their next courses.
