Kitchen Helper – Key Responsibilities
Assist chefs and cooks with basic food preparation (washing, peeling, cutting, chopping vegetables/fruits/meat)
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen workstations, equipment, and utensils
Wash and store dishes, cookware, and cutlery (manual or dishwasher)
Receive, unpack, and store deliveries (dry goods, produce, dairy, meat) as per FIFO/stock rotation
Maintain proper storage temperatures for perishables (fridge/freezer checks)
Transport ingredients and supplies between storage, prep, and cooking stations
Dispose of kitchen waste and garbage as per hygiene protocols
Sweep, mop, and sanitize kitchen floors, walls, and surfaces
Assist with basic cooking tasks under supervision (boiling, blanching, portioning) when required
Follow food safety and hygiene standards (FSSAI guidelines, HACCP basics)
Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance issues to the kitchen supervisor
Support during peak service hours by prepping mise-en-place in advance
Ensure proper labeling and dating of stored food items
Handle kitchen linens (aprons, towels) and ensure they're clean and available
Assist in loading/unloading supplies from vendors and suppliers
Key Requirements typically listed:
Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene and safety
Physical stamina for standing long hours, lifting supplies
Willingness to work in shifts, including weekends/holidays
Prior kitchen experience preferred but not mandatory (many hotels train freshers)
