Solar Panel Technician

Key Responsibilities

1. Scheme-Specific Maintenance – PM Surya Ghar

• Conduct regular maintenance of residential solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

• Guide customers on proper and timely solar panel cleaning.

• Conduct structural inspections and wiring checks.

• Troubleshoot net-metering synchronization and related issues in coordination with the concerned DISCOMs.

• Monitor system performance and address generation-related concerns.

2. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance (Quarterly O&M)

• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance, including string monitoring and inverter air-filter cleaning.

• Attend corrective maintenance requirements and troubleshoot inverter faults, grid over/under-voltage trips, blown fuses, damaged isolator switches, and other electrical issues.

• Facilitate replacement of faulty PV modules, string inverters, net meters, SPDs, and damaged earthing components, wherever required.

• Inspect and tighten mounting structures and check solar modules for visible cracks or physical damage.

• Attend customer complaints relating to generation drops, inverter alarms/red lights, unexpected tripping, and other system issues.

• Maintain basic generation and maintenance records through the company's internal reporting system.

• Capture and report customer feedback.

• August: 4 Nos.

• September: 19 Nos.

• October: 102 Nos.

3. DISCOM Liaisoning

• Support customers during physical inspections conducted by DISCOM/utility officials.

• Coordinate activities related to net-meter approval and commissioning under applicable government subsidy schemes.

• Assist in resolving technical or documentation-related issues during inspections and commissioning.

4. Project Supervision

• Supervise on-site labour, field technicians, and subcontractors to ensure adherence to approved engineering drawings, SLDs, and structural designs.

• Ensure compliance with workplace safety requirements, including the use of appropriate PPE such as safety harnesses, helmets, and insulated tools during rooftop activities.

• Monitor daily site progress against project timelines and ensure timely completion of structural, electrical, and commissioning activities.

• Conduct pre-commissioning checks, including string voltage, polarity, insulation resistance, and earth resistance testing.

• Coordinate material delivery and resolve material shortages, damages, or other site-level issues.

• Prepare sites and relevant documentation for inspections by WBSEDCL/CESC officials and other concerned authorities for timely approvals, net-metering, and PM Surya Ghar subsidy processing.

5. Post-Installation & Commissioning Audit

Structural & Mechanical Audit

• Inspect structure mounting, anchor fasteners, and foundation arrangements on RCC and metal roofs.

• Verify proper waterproofing and flashing at roof penetration points.

• Inspect end-clamps and mid-clamps for proper installation.

• Verify array tilt angle and azimuth against approved site drawings.

• Check for potential shading caused by trees, parapets, or surrounding structures.

Electrical & Wiring Quality Audit

• Inspect DC cable routing and ensure proper protection through suitable conduits.

• Check cables for exposed, sagging, sharply bent, or otherwise damaged sections.

• Verify the integrity and proper installation of MC4 connectors.

• Check proper crimping and ensure that no unauthorized or improper cable joints are present.

• Audit the earthing and grounding system, including:

  • Structure grounding

  • Inverter and AC DB grounding

  • Lightning Arrestor (LA) grounding

  • Earth pit connections

• Measure and verify earth resistance using a digital earth tester.

• Check ferrule labelling, lug crimping, and termination quality of all conductors.

6. Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

Inverter & Electronics

• Diagnose and resolve grid-tied inverter fault codes.

• Troubleshoot grid over-voltage/under-voltage issues, anti-islanding trips, and MPPT-related issues.

DC/AC Electrical Faults

• Conduct insulation resistance (Megger) testing to identify ground faults.

• Diagnose DC cable degradation, MC4 connector moisture ingress, and loose AC/DC isolator connections.

Earthing & Protection Systems

• Conduct earth-pit resistance testing.

• Inspect and rectify damaged Lightning Arresters (LA) and AC/DC Surge Protection Devices (SPDs).

Solar Array & Module Diagnostics

• Identify string-level voltage mismatches.

• Inspect for hotspots, bypass diode failures, micro-cracks, and soiling-related generation losses.

Net Metering & Monitoring

• Troubleshoot bi-directional meter communication issues.

• Resolve RMS/remote monitoring gateway connectivity issues.

• Investigate generation discrepancies in PM Surya Ghar monitoring portals/apps.

• It is a Full Time Technician job for candidates with 1 - 6+ years Experience.
