ELECTRONICS / AUTOMATION ENGINEER – PACKAGING MACHINERY

Job Overview

Job Purpose

To ensure reliable operation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and automation support of electronic, electrical, PLC, HMI, drive, and control systems installed on packaging and printing machinery.

Key Responsibilities

1. Machine Automation & Control

• Handle PLC, HMI, VFD/AC Drives, Servo Drives, Controllers, Sensors, Encoders, Relays, Contactors, and other automation systems.

• Troubleshoot PLC and HMI-related faults in production machines.

• Diagnose and rectify automation problems in Roto Gravure, Flexo Printing, Slitting, Lamination, Pouch Making, Rewinding, and other packaging machinery.

• Understand and modify PLC programs, logic, timers, counters, interlocks, and alarm systems as required.

• Monitor and maintain machine communication networks and control panels.

• Support machine installation, commissioning, and automation upgrades.

2. Electronics Troubleshooting

• Identify and rectify faults in electronic control cards, SMPS, power supplies, sensors, encoders, and control circuits.

• Troubleshoot Servo Drives, VFDs, temperature controllers, PID controllers, and motion control systems.

• Carry out fault finding using multimeters, clamp meters, diagnostic software, and other testing instruments.

• Coordinate with OEM / Service engineers for major machine breakdowns and technical issues.

3. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance

• Carry out preventive maintenance of automation and electronic systems as per maintenance schedules.

• Maintain machine breakdowns and minimize machine downtime.

• Perform root-cause analysis and execute corrective actions.

• Identify recurring faults and implement permanent corrective solutions.

• Maintain critical electronic and automation spare parts.

4. Electrical & Control Panel Support

• Understand electrical control circuits, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and machine schematics.

• Check control panels, PLC panels, drive panels, sensors, and field wiring.

• Support electrical maintenance activities related to automated machinery.

• Ensure proper earthing, cable connections, and safety interlocks.

5. Machine Improvement & Automation

• Identify opportunities for automation, productivity improvement, and reduction of machine downtime.

• Support modification and upgrading of existing machines.

• Assist in installation of new automation systems and production equipment.

• Work with production and maintenance teams to improve machine efficiency and reliability.

6. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain PLC programs, HMI backups, parameter backups, and machine software records.

• Maintain automation maintenance history and breakdown reports.

• Prepare preventive maintenance checklists and technical reports.

• Maintain updated electrical/automation drawings and documentation.

• Ensure proper documentation of machine modifications and changes.

7. Safety & Compliance

• Follow electrical and machine safety procedures during maintenance activities.

• Ensure proper implementation of machine safety interlocks and emergency systems.

• Follow company PPE, EHS, and maintenance procedures.

• Support internal, customer, and certification audits wherever required.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of PLC, HMI, VFD, Servo Drives, and Industrial Automation.

• Knowledge of PLC platforms such as Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley, Delta, Omron, or Schneider will be preferred.

• Good knowledge of sensors, encoders, proximity sensors, photoelectric sensors, and temperature controllers.

• Ability to read electrical control drawings and machine wiring diagrams.

• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profibus/Profinet will be an advantage.

• Good troubleshooting and analytical skills.

• Knowledge of preventive and breakdown maintenance.

• Good coordination skills with Production, Maintenance, OEM, and external service teams.

Educational Qualification & Experience

• Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Automation Engineering.

• Experience: 10 Years of relevant experience in industrial automation / machine maintenance. (Experience in Printing, Packaging, Flexible Packaging, Plastic, or Manufacturing Industries will be preferred).

• Reduction in machine breakdown and downtime.

• Timely completion of preventive maintenance.

• Faster breakdown response and troubleshooting.

• Reduction in recurring automation/electronic faults.

• Availability and reliability of critical automation systems.

• Successful commissioning and modification of machines.

• Proper maintenance of PLC/HMI/software backups and technical records.

Preferred Candidate Profile

A hands-on engineer who can independently troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD, Servo Drives, Sensors, Encoders, and control-panel-related problems and can work closely with the Production and Maintenance teams to ensure maximum machine availability.

Our Client is looking for experienced Electrical Relay Testing Engineers with relevant hands-on experience in Testing, Commissioning and Programming of Electrical Relays.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform testing, commissioning and programming of electrical protection relays.

• Handle Electromechanical, Static and Numerical Relays.

• Work with relays of different makes and types.

• Carry out relay testing and commissioning activities as per project requirements.

• Identify and resolve technical issues during testing and commissioning.

• Ensure proper execution of testing and commissioning activities at project/site locations.

• Maintain required testing records, reports and technical documentation.

• Coordinate with the project/site team for smooth completion of testing and commissioning activities.

Candidate Requirements

• DEE / B.E. in Electrical Engineering.

• 3–5 years of relevant experience in relay testing, commissioning and programming.

• Practical experience with Electromechanical / Static / Numerical Relays.

• Experience with any make / any type of relay will be considered.

• Good technical knowledge and troubleshooting ability.

• Candidates should be willing to travel extensively across India for project/site assignments.

• Candidates will be stationed/base at Vadodara.
