Job Description

SAMAVESHAN SHISHU NIKETAN (SSN)
An Inclusive Pre-Primary School | Greater Noida
A Dr Rina Baruah Goswami Foundation Initiative

JOB TITLE: Preschool / Playgroup Teacher
LOCATION: Samaveshan Shishu Niketan, Omicron 1, Greater Noida
REPORTING TO: Principal
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-time

ABOUT SSN

Samaveshan Shishu Niketan (SSN) is an inclusive pre-primary school under the DrRBG Foundation, built on the conviction that every child — regardless of developmental profile — deserves a joyful, unhurried, and dignified start to learning. SSN operates at the intersection of two powerful frameworks: India's National Education Policy 2020, with its vision for a play-based, activity-based Foundational Stage, and Finnish Early Childhood Education, internationally recognised for its child-led, low-pressure, and holistic approach to the early years. Together, these form the philosophical and pedagogical backbone of everything we do.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Preschool / Playgroup Teacher who understands that the role of the early years educator is not to teach — it is to create the conditions in which children teach themselves. You will be a facilitator, observer, and co-explorer, guiding children aged 1.5 to 6 years through a curriculum where play is the method, curiosity is the outcome, and joy is the measure of success.

This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable leaving the workbook behind and trusting the process — whether that process looks like block play, mud exploration, a spontaneous dance, or a fifteen-minute conversation about why the sky is blue.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum & Learning Environment

  • Plan and facilitate play-based, activity-based learning experiences aligned with the NEP 2020 Foundational Stage framework (ages 3–8) and the five developmental domains: physical, cognitive, socio-emotional, language, and creative

  • Design classroom environments that follow Finnish ECE principles — open-ended, child-accessible, and structured for free exploration rather than teacher-directed instruction

  • Implement the NEP 2020 NIPUN Bharat goals for early literacy and numeracy through embedded, joyful activity rather than formal drills or rote learning

  • Integrate nature, movement, storytelling, art, music, and dramatic play as core pedagogical tools — not supplements

  • Ensure no child in the Playgroup or Nursery stage is subjected to academic pressure, testing, or performance-based ranking of any kind

Child Development & Observation

  • Observe children systematically and document developmental progress across all five domains using narrative observation, portfolio documentation, and developmental checklists

  • Use observation data — not standardised tests — as the primary tool for understanding each child's growth and planning next steps

  • Identify developmental variations early and collaborate with the Principal and the Holding Hope Centre for Speech & Hearing team for timely, supportive intervention

  • Adapt learning experiences fluidly for children with diverse needs, including those with developmental delays, sensory differences, or speech and language challenges, in line with SSN's inclusive mandate

Inclusion & Wellbeing

  • Create a classroom culture of belonging where difference is visible, named positively, and celebrated

  • Prioritise each child's emotional safety and sense of self before any learning objective — consistent with the Finnish ECE principle that wellbeing precedes achievement

  • Support the development of self-regulation, empathy, and social skills through guided peer interaction and conflict resolution, not punishment or reward systems

  • Contribute to IEP (Individualised Education Plan) goals for children receiving additional support, ensuring alignment between therapy targets and classroom practice

Parent Partnership

  • Build warm, consistent, and honest relationships with families through daily communication, structured parent meetings, and documentation sharing

  • Orient parents to SSN's NEP 2020 and Finnish ECE philosophy — particularly the deliberate absence of homework, workbooks, and formal examinations at this stage — with confidence and clarity

  • Handle parent concerns about "academic readiness" with empathy, evidence, and the ability to articulate why play is the most rigorous preparation for future learning

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain attendance, observation records, and developmental portfolios for every child

  • Follow SSN's child safeguarding, health, and hygiene protocols without exception

  • Contribute to school-level documentation required under NEP 2020 Foundational Stage guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Nursery Teacher Training (NTT), or B.Ed. (Pre-Primary / Primary)

  • Minimum 1 year of classroom experience with children aged 1.5 to 6 years

  • Conceptual understanding of NEP 2020, particularly the Foundational Stage vision and NIPUN Bharat framework

  • Ability to communicate warmly in Hindi; working knowledge of English

Preferred

  • Familiarity with Finnish ECE philosophy or international play-based learning models (Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, or equivalent)

  • Prior experience in an inclusive or mixed-ability early childhood setting

  • Basic knowledge of child development milestones and early intervention red flags

  • Exposure to portfolio-based or observation-based assessment (as opposed to test-based evaluation)

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES WE VALUE

  • Patience deep enough to watch a child try the same thing twelve times without intervening

  • Genuine curiosity about children — not just affection for them

  • Comfort with ambiguity, mess, noise, and the productive chaos of a playgroup classroom

  • The ability to hold firm on pedagogy when parents or systems push for worksheets and rankings

  • Collaborative and reflective — SSN is a learning organisation, and the teachers learn as much as the children

  • Cultural sensitivity and ease with families from diverse socioeconomic and linguistic backgrounds

WHAT SSN OFFERS

  • A school where you will never be asked to give a three-year-old a test

  • Leadership that reads, reflects, and keeps up with global ECE research

  • A small, cohesive team where your voice shapes the school's practice

  • A meaningful role at the frontier of inclusive, progressive early childhood education in India
