Job Description

A school coordinator acts as a liaison between teachers, administrators, students, and parents. The role is a blend of administrative, leadership, and educational duties, focused on ensuring the smooth operation and academic excellence of a specific department, program, or grade level. 

Key responsibilities

  • Curriculum management: Oversee the development, implementation, and assessment of the curriculum, ensuring it aligns with the school's standards and educational board guidelines.

  • Teacher support and training: Mentor and guide new and existing teachers, conduct performance evaluations, and coordinate professional development and training workshops.

  • Academic planning: Plan and oversee academic programs and activities, including scheduling classes, managing resources, and tracking student progress.

  • Student welfare: Monitor student performance and well-being, provide academic counseling, and help resolve conflicts.

  • Administrative duties: Manage academic records, prepare reports for school leadership, and coordinate school events like annual functions or parent-teacher meetings.

  • Communication: Facilitate effective communication among teachers, parents, and school administrators to address concerns and ensure a positive learning environment. 

Required qualifications

Educational background

  • Bachelor's degree: A bachelor's degree in education or a related field is a basic requirement. It ensures you have a foundational understanding of teaching methodologies.

  • Master's degree (preferred): Many schools, especially international or advanced institutions, prefer or require a master's degree in Educational Management, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related administrative field. This shows specialized knowledge and commitment.

  • B.Ed.: A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree is often expected, especially for roles within the Indian education system, as it provides specific training for classroom instruction. 

Professional experience (Teacher to Coordinator)
Transitioning from a teaching role is a common path to becoming a coordinator. Here is a typical experience progression:

  • Minimum teaching experience: Schools generally require a minimum of 4–5 years of classroom teaching experience, often in a CBSE or international school setting , and experienced as a coordinator for 2-3 years in school. Both the experience are mandatory for this post .
