Restaurant Captain – Job Description

Position: Restaurant Captain
Department: Food & Beverage
Reports To: Restaurant Manager / F&B Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome and greet guests in a warm, professional manner

• Supervise and coordinate activities of stewards/waiters

• Ensure correct table setup, service standards, and cleanliness

• Take food & beverage orders and ensure accurate order punching

• Serve food and beverages as per service sequence and standards

• Handle guest complaints politely and resolve issues promptly

• Monitor guest satisfaction and ensure repeat business

• Train new staff on service procedures and menu knowledge

• Coordinate with kitchen and bar for smooth service operations

• Ensure compliance with hygiene, safety, and SOP guidelines

• Prepare duty rosters and assist in shift planning

• Handle billing, cash/card transactions, and closing procedures

Skills & Competencies

• Strong leadership and team-handling skills

• Excellent communication and guest interaction skills

• Good knowledge of food, beverages, and service styles

• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

• Problem-solving and conflict-handling ability

• Basic computer/POS system knowledge

Qualifications

• 10th / 12th pass (Hotel Management preferred but not mandatory)

• 2–5 years of experience in restaurant service, including supervisory role

Working Conditions

• Shift-based duties including weekends & holidays

• Standing for long hours
