Role Summary
The Solar Technician (Electrical) is a core field role responsible for the safe and quality installation of Solar PV power plants at client sites. The technician will work as part of a project team under the supervision of a Project In-Charge, carrying out all on-site electrical and mechanical activities from earthing to final commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Earthing Works
• Installation of AC earthing for panels, DB boxes, and electrical enclosures
• Installation of DC earthing for module frames, mounting structures, and inverters
• Installation of Lightning Arrestor (LA) earthing
• GI Patti (Galvanised Iron Flat) fixing and routing as per design drawings
• Earthing pit preparation and connection with GI wire / strip
DC Wiring
• Laying and termination of DC solar cables (positive and negative) from modules to combiner boxes / inverters
• Correct identification and labelling of DC strings
• Crimping of MC4 connectors and ensuring proper polarity
• Cable tray / conduit installation for DC cable routing
AC Cabling
• Laying of AC power cables from inverter output to the meter room / ACDB
• Proper cable dressing, tying, and labelling on AC side
• Installation of cable trays, conduits, and PVC channels for AC cable routing
Inverter Connections
• Termination of DC input (strings) in inverter terminals as per wiring diagram
• Termination of AC output from inverter to ACDB / switchgear
• Verification of connections before and after energisation
Meter Room Work
• Cable termination in meter room DB / panel as per utility requirements
• Coordination with DISCOM / utility team for net meter connection
• Proper glanding, lugging, and torquing of all terminations
• Housekeeping of all cable entries with fire-rated sealant / grommet
General Site Responsibilities
• Follow all safety protocols, including PPE usage at all times
• Ensure cleanliness and housekeeping of the work area after each shift
• Report daily work progress to the Project In-Charge
• Assist in module mounting and racking if required
• Participate in pre-commissioning checks and testing
Required Skills & Competencies
• Sound knowledge of basic electrical wiring and safety practices
• Ability to read and follow single-line diagrams (SLD) and wiring schematics
• Hands-on experience with earthing systems (AC, DC, and LA)
• Proficiency in cable termination, crimping, and glanding
• Familiarity with solar inverters, combiner boxes, and meter room panels
• Physically fit for rooftop and site work (ladder and height climbing)
• Responsible, punctual, and able to work independently as well as in a team
