Job Summary

A Special Educator supports students with special educational needs by developing and implementing individualized learning plans, adapting teaching strategies, and providing personalized instruction. The role focuses on promoting academic progress, social-emotional development, communication skills, independence, and inclusion in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess students’ learning needs, strengths, and areas requiring support.

• Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Individualized Education Programmes.

• Adapt teaching methods, learning materials, and classroom activities to meet individual needs.

• Provide one-to-one and small-group instruction.

• Support students with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and other developmental or educational needs, according to their qualifications and expertise.

• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of assessments and learning outcomes.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers, school counsellors, therapists, parents, and other professionals.

• Implement strategies to improve communication, social interaction, behavior, and daily living skills where appropriate.

• Promote an inclusive, accessible, safe, and supportive learning environment.

• Guide parents and caregivers on strategies to support learning at home.

• Participate in parent meetings, case discussions, staff training, and multidisciplinary reviews.

• Maintain confidentiality and follow school policies, safeguarding procedures, and applicable special education regulations.
