Security Officer Responsibilities and Duties
Patrolling: Conducting regular, high-visibility patrols on foot or in vehicles to prevent intrusion, vandalism, and safety hazards.
Surveillance & Monitoring: Monitoring CCTV systems, alarm systems, and security software to detect irregularities or security breaches.
Access Control: Controlling building access by verifying identification, checking credentials of employees/visitors, and operating gates or doors.
Emergency Response: Responding to alarms, medical emergencies, or security threats by following established protocols, and coordinating with emergency services (police, fire).
Documentation: Writing detailed daily logs and incident reports, including documenting breaches, suspicious activity, or property damage.
Safety Compliance: Enforcing company policies and legal regulations to maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors.
Asset Protection: Securing high-value assets and property, particularly in commercial or industrial settings.
Conflict Resolution: Using de-escalation techniques to handle confrontations and unruly behavior.
Job Requirements and Skills
High school diploma or equivalent (usually required).
Relevant experience in security, law enforcement, or military (preferred).
Valid security license or registration (as required by local regulations).
Excellent observation and situational awareness skills.
Proficiency with security systems, cameras, and communication tools.
First aid, CPR, or AED certification (often preferred).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
Ability to work in various environments, including outdoors, during day or night shifts.
Ability to respond to physical incidents or assist with evacuations.
