A Store Manager (or Retail Store Manager) oversees the day-to-day operations, staff, sales performance, and inventory of a retail store to ensure profitability and great customer service.

Role Overview

The Store Manager acts as the "mini-CEO" of the location, managing daily business functions, meeting sales targets, and leading the floor team.

Key Responsibilities

• Staff Management: Recruit, hire, train, schedule, mentor, and evaluate store associates and assistant managers.

• Inventory & Stock Control: Manage stock levels, handle vendor orders, process shipments, and minimize shrinkage/stock loss.

• Visual Merchandising: Maintain store appearance, layout, and promotional displays in line with brand standards.

• Customer Service: Handle escalations, resolve customer complaints, and model high-service standards on the sales floor.

• Admin & Compliance: Manage cash registers, daily/monthly reporting, budgets, and adherence to health, safety, and labor laws.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: Typically 3 to 7 years of retail or managerial experience.

• Education: High school diploma required; a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related field is often preferred.

• Core Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and team-motivation skills

  • Financial and business acumen (budgeting, sales analysis)

  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution

  • Proficiency in Point of Sale (POS) and inventory management software

  • Flexibility to work retail hours, including weekends, holidays, and peak seasons
