Job Summary:
The Kitchen Helper plays a vital role in supporting the kitchen team by assisting with food preparation, cleaning, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen. This role ensures that all kitchen equipment, utensils, and supplies are readily available for chefs and cooks, contributing to smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation Assistance:
Assist in washing, peeling, chopping, and preparing ingredients as per the chef’s instructions.
Prepare basic ingredients like salads, sauces, garnishes, and stocks.
Help with assembling dishes or plating as directed by the chef.
Cleaning & Sanitization:
Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the kitchen, including counters, floors, storage areas, and appliances.
Clean and sanitize all kitchen equipment, utensils, and workspaces after each use.
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations related to food hygiene and cleanliness.
Dishwashing:
Wash dishes, pots, pans, and cooking utensils to ensure a steady supply of clean items for cooking and serving.
Ensure that dishes and utensils are properly dried and stored.
Stocking & Inventory:
Help in storing and organizing food items, utensils, and cleaning supplies.
Ensure proper labeling and rotation of stock to minimize waste.
Assist in receiving deliveries and checking goods for quality and quantity.
Waste Management:
Properly dispose of food waste and other kitchen refuse, following the restaurant’s waste disposal policies.
Ensure that trash bins are emptied and cleaned regularly.
Support to Chefs and Cooks:
Assist chefs and other kitchen staff in their tasks during service.
Help set up and break down kitchen stations before and after service.
Aid in assembling ingredients and maintaining mise en place (prep stations) for the cooking team.
Kitchen Organization:
Ensure that all kitchen tools, equipment, and ingredients are well organized and easy to access.
Maintain cleanliness and order in storage areas, including refrigerators and dry storage.
Qualifications:
Education: No formal education required. On-the-job training will be provided.
Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen or foodservice environment is a plus but not mandatory.
Skills:
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Basic knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation standards.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Willingness to learn and take direction.
