VMC Setter-cum-Operator
The VMC Setter-cum-Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring Vertical Machining Center (VMC) machines to produce precision components as per engineering drawings and quality standards. The role combines machine setup, tool setting, program handling, and routine maintenance.
Set up VMC machines including fixtures, tools, offsets, and workpieces
Load, edit, and run CNC/VMC programs as per job requirements
Operate VMC machines to produce components within specified tolerances
Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and process sheets
Perform tool setting, tool changes, and tool life monitoring
Conduct in-process inspection using measuring instruments (vernier, micrometer, bore gauge, height gauge, etc.)
Ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish of components
Identify and rectify minor machining or program issues
Maintain daily production records and inspection reports
Follow safety guidelines and maintain 5S and housekeeping standards
Perform basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting
Coordinate with supervisors, quality, and maintenance teams
Strong knowledge of VMC machining operations
Understanding of G-codes and M-codes
Ability to read technical drawings and tolerances
Experience with various cutting tools and materials
Basic knowledge of CNC programming (editing preferred)
Good problem-solving and attention to detail
Knowledge of ISO quality standards is an advantage
ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Tool & Die, or CNC Machining
Minimum 2–5 years of experience as a VMC Operator/Setter (experience may vary as per company needs)
VMC brands such as Haas, Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.
Measuring instruments and inspection tools
Experience with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, or alloy materials
Shop-floor based role
May involve shift work
Requires standing for long hours and handling precision components
