A VMC (Vertical Machining Center) Programmer creates the software programs that direct automated CNC milling machines to cut raw materials into precise components.
Core Responsibilities
Writing Programs: Develop 2D and 3D machining codes using CAM software (like Mastercam or Powermill) or manual G-code/M-code entry.
Blueprint Reading: Interpret technical drawings, 3D models, and GD&T symbols.
Setup & Optimization: Calculate optimal cutting speeds and feeds, select tooling, and set machine coordinates.
Testing & Quality: Run simulations to prevent crashes, inspect finished parts with micrometers, and troubleshoot code errors.
Key Requirements
Education: ITI, Diploma, or Degree in Mechanical/Production Engineering.
Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on VMC operation and programming experience.
Technical Knowledge: Competency with controllers like Fanuc, Siemens, or Haas.
