Job Summary

A Quality Control Engineer in the automobile industry ensures that vehicles and components meet required quality standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications. They monitor manufacturing processes, inspect products, identify defects, and implement corrective actions to improve overall quality.

Key Responsibilities

1️⃣ Quality Inspection & Testing

• Inspect raw materials, in-process components, and finished vehicles.

• Conduct dimensional and functional testing of automotive parts.

• Ensure compliance with standards such as ISO/TS 16949 (IATF 16949).

2️⃣ Process Monitoring

• Monitor production line quality.

• Analyze defects and take corrective/preventive actions.

• Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC).

3️⃣ Problem Solving

• Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

• Use tools like:

  • 7 QC Tools

  • Fishbone Diagram

  • 5 Why Analysis

  • FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)

4️⃣ Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain quality records and inspection reports.

• Prepare quality performance reports.

• Handle customer complaints and warranty analysis.

5️⃣ Continuous Improvement

• Support Kaizen activities.

• Reduce rejection rates and rework.

• Improve production efficiency.

Educational Qualification

• Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in:

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Automobile Engineering

  • Production Engineering

Required Skills

• Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes

• Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)

• Familiarity with quality standards (ISO 9001 / IATF 16949)

• Problem-solving and analytical skills

• Good communication skills

• Basic knowledge of tools like:

  • CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine)

  • Vernier caliper, Micrometer

  • ERP systems

Experience

• Entry-level: 0–2 years (Junior QC Engineer)

• Mid-level: 3–5 years (Quality Engineer)

• Senior-level: 6+ years (Senior Quality Engineer / Quality Manager)

Salary (Approximate – varies by country)

• Entry Level: ₹2.5 – ₹4 LPA (India)

• Mid Level: ₹4 – ₹8 LPA

• Senior Level: ₹8+ LPA
