PCB Design Engineer – Mobile Adapters & Electronics
We are hiring a PCB Design Engineer to design and lay out PCBs for mobile chargers, power adapters and related consumer electronics, from schematic through to mass production.
Key responsibilities
Design PCB layouts for mobile chargers, USB adapters (Type-A and Type-C) and other consumer electronics, from schematic to production-ready files.
Do component placement and routing for switch-mode power supply (SMPS) boards, keeping correct creepage and clearance between primary (high-voltage) and secondary (low-voltage) sides.
Design single-layer, double-layer and multilayer boards, including rigid, flexible and rigid-flex PCBs where needed.
Follow PCB layout standards and design rules; set up electrical and design rule checks (DRC/ERC) in the design software.
Lay out power paths, ground planes and high-current traces to control heat, noise and EMI.
Create and maintain footprints and component libraries.
Generate and check Gerber files, drill files, BOM and pick-and-place files for fabrication and assembly.
Carry out DFM/DFA reviews and resolve engineering issues before release.
Work with PCB fabricators and SMT assembly suppliers, and respond quickly to their engineering queries (EQ).
Support prototype builds, testing and debugging with the hardware team, and track SMT quality issues through to closure.
Revise layouts based on test results, certification feedback (EMI, safety) and cost targets.
Keep design files, revisions and documentation organised and up to date.
Requirements
Diploma or degree in Electronics, Electrical, EEE, ECE or a related field.
2–5 years of hands-on PCB layout experience, ideally on chargers, adapters or power supplies.
Has designed at least 2-layer boards and understands layer stack-ups for multilayer boards.
Good knowledge of SMPS topologies (flyback, buck, boost) and how layout affects their performance.
Able to read schematics and understand signal and power flow.
Understands creepage, clearance and isolation rules for mains-powered (AC–DC) products.
Proficient in at least one PCB tool: Altium Designer, Protel, OrCAD/Allegro, PADS or KiCad.
Familiar with AutoCAD for mechanical outlines, and with MS Office for documentation.
Experience preparing Gerbers and working with PCB and SMT vendors.
Good communication skills; works well in a team and can handle projects independently.
Responsible and proactive, and willing to work extra hours to meet project deadlines.
Nice to have
Experience with fast-charging designs: USB Power Delivery (PD), Qualcomm Quick Charge (QC) or PPS.
Experience with GaN-based compact chargers.
Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards such as BIS (IS 13252), IEC 62368-1, CE and FCC.
Experience fixing EMI/EMC failures and passing pre-compliance tests.
Thermal design knowledge for small, sealed adapter enclosures.
Familiarity with burn-in and aging tests for chargers.
Experience with cost-down redesigns for high-volume production.
