The CNC Surface Milling / Vertical Machining Center (VMC) Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC milling machines and vertical machining centers to manufacture precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications. The role requires strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and quality control to ensure efficient and accurate production.
Key Responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC surface milling machines and Vertical Machining Centers (VMC).
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM data to determine machining requirements.
Load programs and perform basic CNC programming or editing (G-code) when required.
Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding devices.
Adjust feeds, speeds, and offsets to achieve required surface finish and tolerances.
Monitor machining operations to ensure smooth production and prevent defects.
Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
Maintain quality standards and dimensional accuracy as per specifications.
Perform basic preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of machines.
Follow safety procedures and shop floor best practices.
Maintain proper production records and documentation.
Required Qualifications
ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Making, or CNC Machining.
0–1 years of experience operating CNC Milling or VMC machines.
Knowledge of CNC machine operations and machining principles.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T basics.
Required Skills
Understanding of G-code and M-code basics.
Experience with tool setting, offsets, and work coordinate systems.
