Job Title: Area Sales Manager (ASM)

Industry: Ayurvedic / Pharmaceutical

Department: Sales - General Trade / Doctor Channel

Location: Assigned Territory in Bihar Region

Reporting To: Regional Sales Head / VP Sales

 

Role Overview and Scope

The Area Sales Manager (ASM) will be responsible for driving sales growth and expanding market presence for the company’s Ayurvedic and healthcare products in the assigned territory. The role involves managing the Medical Representative (MR) team, developing strong relationships with doctors and distributors, and ensuring effective execution of sales strategies across the region. The ASM will play a key role in strengthening the company’s prescription base, improving product visibility in retail channels, and achieving regional sales targets through efficient territory management.

 

Key Responsibilities

·         Drive monthly and quarterly sales targets for the assigned territory.

·         Manage and grow the territory sales portfolio and ensure sustainable revenue growth.

·         Lead, mentor, and monitor the performance of the Medical Representative (MR) team.

·         Conduct joint field visits with MRs to support doctor engagement and sales productivity.

·         Develop strong professional relationships with doctors including gynaecologists, general physicians, orthopaedics, and Ayurvedic practitioners.

·         Promote and detail company products to doctors to generate prescriptions and increase product adoption.

·         Identify and appoint new distributors/stockists in the territory and maintain strong relationships with existing partners.

·         Ensure product availability across chemists, retailers, and distributor networks.

·         Monitor distributor sales, stock levels, and secondary movement to maintain healthy inventory flow.

·         Expand retail and chemist coverage to strengthen product visibility and availability.

·         Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to identify growth opportunities.

·         Plan and execute promotional activities, doctor meetings, and local marketing initiatives.

·         Ensure timely reporting of sales performance, field activities, and market insights.

·         Maintain strong coordination between the sales team, distributors, and internal departments.

·         Support training and development of the MR team to improve field effectiveness.

·         Maintain accurate documentation of promotional activities and doctor interactions as per guidelines.

·         Work closely with marketing, supply chain, and medical affairs teams to align the overall company strategy in the assigned territory.

·         Identify and manage relationships with high-potential hospitals, clinics, and institutional accounts.

·         Track doctor coverage, prescription growth, distributor sales, chemist coverage, and OTC platform expansion.

·         Develop leadership within the team by grooming high-potential resources.

 

Eligibility, Skills and Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, or Business preferred).

·         4-5 years of experience in Pharma / Ayurvedic / Healthcare sales.

·         Experience managing field sales teams and regional territories.

·         Proven experience managing or contributing to a 10 lakh+ monthly sales portfolio.

·         Minimum 2-3 years of experience working in the assigned territory or state.

·         Strong doctor network including gynaecologists, general physicians, orthopaedics, and Ayurvedic practitioners.

·         Established relationships with distributors and stockists in the territory.

·         Strong understanding of the local healthcare and pharmaceutical market.

·         Excellent sales, negotiation, and relationship management skills.

·         Strong leadership and team management capabilities.

·         Ability to analyze market trends and drive strategic sales initiatives.

·         Good communication, reporting, and organizational skills.
