A computer operator monitors and controls enterprise computer systems, manages scheduled batch jobs, performs data backups, and troubleshoots hardware and software issues. They act as the frontline support for IT infrastructure, ensuring continuous system performance and minimizing downtime in data centers and corporate offices.

Key Responsibilities

• System Monitoring: Oversee computer consoles, networks, and peripheral devices to ensure optimal performance.

• Job Execution: Manually submit and manage scheduled batch processing jobs, verifying they complete without errors.

• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware malfunctions, software errors, and network connectivity issues, escalating complex problems to senior IT staff.

• Maintenance & Backups: Perform routine preventative maintenance, install software patches, and execute data backups to prevent information loss.

• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive logs of system activity, equipment malfunctions, and any corrective actions taken during the shift.

• User Support: Provide basic technical support and access assistance to internal and external users.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

• Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is the baseline, though certifications or an Associate's/Bachelor's degree in Computer Science are frequently preferred.

• Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with operating systems (e.g., Windows, UNIX, Linux), data management tools, and IT monitoring software.

• Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to quickly react to error messages and system failures.

• Attention to Detail: High accuracy in processing data, typing, and maintaining equipment inventories.
