Core Responsibilities for a Accountant

The main duties for an entry-level position focus on foundational accounting tasks: 

• Record Keeping: Post and process journal entries, and maintain and update financial records and general ledgers.

• Accounts Payable/Receivable: Manage invoices, process payments, and ensure accuracy in accounts payable (money owed by the company) and accounts receivable (money owed to the company).

• Reconciliations: Perform bank and account reconciliations to ensure that internal records match external statements and investigate any discrepancies.

• Financial Reporting Assistance: Assist in the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements under the guidance of senior accountants.

• Expense and Payroll Support: Review expense reports, track organizational expenses, and support payroll administration tasks as needed.

• Audits and Tax Prep Support: Aid auditors in the preparation of audits and assist with gathering information for tax filings and returns. 

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Education: A Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is generally required.

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Tally) and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is essential.

• Knowledge: A solid understanding of basic accounting principles and financial regulations (like GAAP).

• Soft Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.

  • Good organizational and time management abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
