An Accountant

manages and reports an organization's finances by collecting, analyzing, and verifying financial data, preparing statements, budgets, and tax returns, ensuring compliance with laws, and providing insights for strategic financial decisions, covering daily tasks like recording transactions to monthly duties like financial statement compilation and audits. They focus on accuracy, compliance, and efficiency to support financial health, often using technology for routine tasks to focus on high-level analysis. 

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow), budgets, and forecasts.

• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate ledgers, record transactions, and reconcile accounts (e.g., bank statements).

• Compliance & Taxes: Ensure adherence to GAAP and other regulations, compute taxes, and prepare tax returns.

• Analysis & Strategy: Review financial data, identify risks, suggest cost-saving measures, and advise management on financial strategy.

• Auditing: Conduct internal audits, examine financial records for accuracy, and manage financial discrepancies.

• Operations: Oversee accounts payable/receivable, process payroll, and manage cash flow. 

Typical Tasks by Frequency

• Daily: Record transactions, monitor cash flow, respond to inquiries.

• Weekly: Process payroll, review invoices, prepare preliminary reports, check compliance.

• Monthly/Quarterly/Annually: Compile financial statements, review budgets, update tax records, conduct audits, prepare tax filings.
