Security Officer Responsibilities and Duties

• Patrolling: Conducting regular, high-visibility patrols on foot or in vehicles to prevent intrusion, vandalism, and safety hazards.

• Surveillance & Monitoring: Monitoring CCTV systems, alarm systems, and security software to detect irregularities or security breaches.

• Access Control: Controlling building access by verifying identification, checking credentials of employees/visitors, and operating gates or doors.

• Emergency Response: Responding to alarms, medical emergencies, or security threats by following established protocols, and coordinating with emergency services (police, fire).

• Documentation: Writing detailed daily logs and incident reports, including documenting breaches, suspicious activity, or property damage.

• Safety Compliance: Enforcing company policies and legal regulations to maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors.

• Asset Protection: Securing high-value assets and property, particularly in commercial or industrial settings.

• Conflict Resolution: Using de-escalation techniques to handle confrontations and unruly behavior.

Job Requirements and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent (usually required).

• Relevant experience in security, law enforcement, or military (preferred).

• Valid security license or registration (as required by local regulations).

• Excellent observation and situational awareness skills.

• Proficiency with security systems, cameras, and communication tools.

• First aid, CPR, or AED certification (often preferred).

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.

• Ability to work in various environments, including outdoors, during day or night shifts.

• Ability to respond to physical incidents or assist with evacuations.
