Job Description

Role: Sales Manager- SME Rooftop Solar Finance, in Bengaluru, Karnataka

Marman Climate Smart Technology Private Limited (Marman) is a Lending FinTech startup focused on Climate Finance in India, for segments including rooftop solar, waste management, DRE-agri-tech, e-Buses, green buildings, industrial waste-water treatment, and such other environment-related segments. Marman’s business model is to empanel early-stage and mid-sized B2B vendor partners in these Cleantech segments, and then extend debt related services to their customers (SMEs or underserved segments), for their cleantech projects, without any hard collateral, under very close synchronization with our vendor partners. Marman Climate Services Private Limited is a wholly-owned-subsidiary of Marman.

Marman is looking to recruit a Sales Manager- SME Rooftop Solar & Cleantech Finance, based in Bengaluru, Karnataka to join a start-up in its foundation stages- with all the joys and uncertainty associated with it! The candidate should be adept at reaching out to target SMEs and sourcing leads in the region, screen them, arrange site visits from our empaneled cleantech vendor partners, enable the entire project finance transaction synchronizing with all stakeholders, and ensure the highest service standards in extending finance to these B2B customers. The candidate must have a “can do” attitude and a “hunger for business” for the segments that we cater to, at the same time manage the relationships with CFOs, our vendor partners as well as existing portfolio customers. Must be willing to interface with the promoter and finance leadership level teams of the target SME clients directly and constructively take the deal to a meaningful conclusion without having to lean on a supporting team. This is a full-time, individual contributor role.

Roles & Responsibilities:

This is an individual contributor role that requires you to

- engage confidently with SMEs in the region who may adopt the cleantech solutions provided by our empaneled vendor partners in the region and avail bundled finance from Marman for such cleantech projects

- understand the vendor partner’s business model and our screening requirements

- have a flair for understanding financials and debt needs of the SME customers and the numbers related to the project(s) being considered for finance

- develop a customized solution for B2B borrowers as designed by our vendor partners and constructively take the deal to a meaningful conclusion

- perform a thorough due diligence and credit underwriting of potential borrowers, including financial modelling for the project(s), background checks, site visits, the risks and mitigates

- do end-end deal execution and documentation, with very close synchronization with our vendor partners and HO team

- maintain relationships, monitor deals closely

- ensure the highest service standards in extending finance to these B2B customers, strengthening the Marman brand and reputation profitably in the market and industry forums

- contribute actively in refining Marman’s growth strategy in the region, lending and credit monitoring strategies and assist in corporate functions

- work closely and in sync with the HO team

- be mobile and keen to meet new clients to expand Marman’s coverage of the market


Requirements:
- You must be keen to join and be able to thrive in a startup that aims to grow aggressively in the sustainability finance space

- Must have clear action-oriented thinking, with strong number crunching, analytical, problem solving and communication skills

- Must have fluency in the local regional language, in addition to English for official communications

- Prior BD/ Sales experience in Rooftop Solar C&I space in the Region is a significant plus

- Prior SME lending sales experience in the region is a plus

- A professional qualification such as MBA or equivalent is a plus

- Candidates having done field sales/ SME sales earlier, will be preferred

- Must have ability to work ‘hands-on’ and ‘multi-task’ effectively in a team

- Location: any major city in Karnataka with robust SME clusters

- Minimum two years’ work experience in similar role preferred

- Compensation expectation within ₹ 8.4 LPA (including fixed travel allowance/re-imbursements of up to 8%) preferred, using your own vehicle, laptop, mobile phone, WFH

- Candidates may be hired/transferred in any of Marman’s group companies or agency payroll

- Must be comfortable in a goal-oriented environment, where integrity-lapse or non-performance can be adequate cause for termination

- Must be comfortable to (a) maintain frugality while not impacting customer-service, (b) operate in an office-less self-monitoring mode with no physical, only digital collateral to show to customers as per the policies of Marman, (c) travel inter-city in buses/train to nearby catchments/ regions, if needed (although exceptionally) by Marman and/or the vendor partners, with prior permission of HO and at own cost (managing within the fixed travel allowance as part of compensation).
