Store Manager – Key Responsibilities
1. Store Operations & Administration
Manage the complete day-to-day operations of the retail store and ensure smooth
functioning across all departments.
Ensure timely opening and closing of the store as per company policies and standard
operating procedures (SOPs). There should be one manager present for both opening
and closing all the time to ensure everything is done correctly.
Maintain high standards of store presentation, cleanliness, visual merchandising,
product displays, ambience, and overall customer experience.
Ensure all operational processes are executed efficiently and in accordance with
company guidelines.
Coordinate with production, warehouse, procurement, accounts, HR, maintenance,
and other departments to ensure uninterrupted store operations.
Monitor utility consumption, maintenance schedules, and store infrastructure to
ensure smooth functioning of all equipment and facilities.
Maintain all operational records, registers, licenses, and statutory documentation
required for store operations.
Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective and preventive actions to
improve efficiency.
2. Sales, Profitability & Business Growth
Drive store sales and ensure achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue,
profitability, and business targets.
Monitor daily sales performance, product-wise sales trends, category performance,
average bill value, customer footfall, and conversion rates.
Analyze business reports and identify opportunities to increase sales, improve
margins, and maximize profitability.
Develop and implement initiatives to increase customer acquisition, retention, and
repeat purchases.
Promote high-margin products, seasonal offerings, and new product launches to
enhance sales performance.
Support and execute marketing campaigns, festive promotions, in-store activations,
and branding initiatives.
Identify opportunities for corporate orders, bulk orders, catering business, and
institutional sales.
Monitor competitor activities, pricing, product offerings, and market trends and
provide recommendations to management.
3. Customer Service & Relationship Management
Ensure exceptional customer service standards are consistently maintained throughout
the store.
Build strong relationships with regular customers, corporate clients, and key business
accounts.
Handle customer concerns, complaints, and escalations professionally and ensure
timely resolution.
Monitor customer feedback received through direct interactions, online reviews,
social media, and feedback forms.
Implement corrective actions and service improvement initiatives based on customer
feedback.
Ensure a welcoming shopping environment that enhances customer satisfaction and
loyalty.
Continuously work towards improving customer retention and increasing repeat
business.
4. Team Management, Recruitment & Development
Lead, supervise, motivate, and manage the entire store team to achieve operational
and business objectives.
Identify manpower requirements and coordinate recruitment, selection, onboarding,
and induction of new employees.
Ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained at all times through proper manpower
planning and timely replacement of vacant positions.
Prepare duty rosters, shift schedules, weekly offs, leave management plans, and
attendance monitoring.
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching, mentoring, and
constructive feedback.
Maintain discipline, accountability, teamwork, and a positive work culture within the
organization.
Monitor employee productivity and ensure responsibilities are executed effectively.
Conduct regular staff training on product knowledge, customer service, hygiene
practices, sales techniques, safety procedures, and company SOPs.
Identify skill gaps and create development plans for future supervisors and team
leaders.
5. Inventory, Stock & Warehouse Coordination
Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment of all products and
consumables.
Maintain optimum stock levels to prevent stock-outs, excess inventory, and loss of
sales opportunities.
Conduct regular stock audits, physical verification, stock reconciliation, and inventory
analysis.
Ensure accurate stock records and system inventory at all times.
Coordinate stock transfers between store, warehouse, and production units.
Monitor and control inventory losses due to damage, expiry, wastage, pilferage, or
handling issues.
Ensure proper storage conditions and handling practices for all products and
materials.
6. Production Planning & Freshness Management
Coordinate closely with factory and production teams to ensure adequate product
availability throughout the day.
Forecast daily product requirements based on historical sales data, seasonal trends,
festivals, weekends, weather conditions, and special events.
Ensure products are displayed, stored, and sold according to freshness standards
established by the company.
Monitor returns, unsold inventory, damages, and wastage and implement corrective
measures to improve inventory utilization.
Ensure strict adherence to FIFO (First In First Out) and shelf-life management
practices.
Maintain proper communication between store and production teams to avoid
shortages and overproduction.
7. Quality Control, Food Safety & Hygiene
Ensure all products consistently meet company quality standards and customer
expectations.
Conduct regular tasting sessions and product quality evaluations.
Monitor product appearance, taste, texture, packaging, and freshness standards.
Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, FSSAI guidelines, hygiene protocols,
and company quality procedures.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards across sales areas, storage rooms,
production interfaces, and customer zones.
Take immediate corrective action whenever quality or hygiene standards are
compromised.
8. Financial Controls & Cash Management
Verify daily cash collections, POS transactions, digital payments, credit sales, and
banking deposits.
Ensure strict compliance with company cash handling and financial control
procedures.
Review daily sales reports, cash summaries, variance reports, and financial
reconciliations.
Investigate discrepancies related to cash, billing, discounts, refunds, stock
movements, and transactions.
Monitor store expenses and implement cost-control measures to improve profitability.
9. Vendor, Asset & Maintenance Management
Ensure timely maintenance and servicing of refrigeration units, display counters,
kitchen equipment, air-conditioning systems, electrical systems, and other store
assets.
Maintain AMC records and schedule preventive maintenance activities.
Ensure all company assets are properly utilized, maintained, and safeguarded.
10. Security, Compliance & Risk Management
Monitor CCTV systems and store security procedures to safeguard company assets.
Prevent theft, pilferage, fraud, inventory losses, and operational leakages.
Investigate stock variances, security incidents, operational losses, and compliance
breaches.
Ensure compliance with all statutory, legal, labor, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to company policies and
operational standards.
11. Reporting, Analysis & Continuous Improvement
Review and verify daily sales, inventory, wastage, manpower, cash, and operational
reports.
Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare actionable recommendations
for management.
Track business performance against targets and develop improvement plans where
required.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, increase productivity,
enhance customer satisfaction, and strengthen profitability.
Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives across store operations.
